CAMPO NOVO DOS PARECIS, MT, BRAZIL. 03/05/2021. Corn plantation in the Parecis plateau in northwest Mato Grosso. The region that functions as a watershed between the Amazon and La Plata basins was rapidly occupied by intensive grain agriculture from the 1980s onwards. The only areas that remained preserved in this region were indigenous territories that are now also being dedicated to soybean plantations. If this production model based on intensive agriculture is replicated to other indigenous lands in the Amazon, this could have a strong impact on the way of life of these traditional populations and on forest preservation.
